I had a look at some of the Information Management and Technology blogs listed on the website and found Librarian In Black most appealing.
Librarian In Black is a fantastic blog that, unlike some of the other blogs, writes in 'plain English' without using too much technical jargon from the Information Management world that would simply confuse an archiving novice like me! I realised that I am not used to reading this style of writing, being so unrestricted and personal, rather than the academic style of writing I come across in my studies. Due to this, I found Librarian In Black rather amusing and very entertaining to read. Also, it is great to see the growing relationship and support shown between the blogger and her readers in the comments section.
I definitely recommend Librarian In Black to any budding Information Management professionals and look forward to reading her future blog posts!
I agree the Librarian in Black does seem very nice and accessible. However, despite my book nerd ways, I find blogs very inaccessible. I feel like I read enough already and I don't really need to read about something that isn't (I feel) particularly relevant to me.
ReplyDeleteWhat are your thoughts?
I know how you feel. Blogs are good if you want to see someone's opinion but when looking for hard evidence on a topic I don't believe they are reliable. I'm also struggling with the whole 'everything is online' concept...I prefer good ol' fashioned books!
DeletePS: Is that a Doctor Who reference I spy? =D
ReplyDeleteIndeed it is! :D
DeleteI too enjoyed browsing the Librarian in Black blog (and such a great title). I think for us newbies to the profession it is important to have some level of 'plain english' so we can get our heads around the concepts, and learn the technical jargon gradually.
ReplyDeleteHi Christina!
ReplyDelete'Librarian In Black' blog, it seems wonderful and beneficial for us as we studying Information Management.
Thanks for this information.
Keep going.
Hi Christina, the Librarian in Black Blog is right out there and 'confidentially' lol - quite misread - in that so many budding librarians, archivists, and all of us, have been pointed at it. I'm not saying that the blog is not enjoyable, at all, but rather that there are other comparable blogs, especially those such as LibraryThing and most blogs which are attached to nearly every library around the big wide world. I do enjoy a good blog though, because I find it to be an excellent learning tool for my studies, Cheers, Susanne
